What are my plans?

I think we will create an actor timetable to increase our shooting efficieny as we still have problems with availability of actors. Some reshooting for advert 1 needs to be completed as it does not flow quite right at the moment. In January we hope to continue you progressing at hopefully a faster with shooting for advert 2 beginning quickly. I think we will take advert 2 more seriosuly as we have let things slide with our first advert. We have not decided yet, but we may film advert 2 and 3 simultaneously in order to speed up the filming process which will mean that we can then dedicate all of our time to editing. By the end of January we hope to have completed all of the filming for all 3 of our adverts.

Where am i at?

Overall we have been making ok progress albeit it fairly slowly. We did not fully meet the first deadline as ad 1 is not 100% completed yet and ad 2 has not been started. We believe we have nailed down a good amount of ad 1 so far which is beneficial because ad 1 appears like it will take the most time and work out of all 3. I believe that we will finish our coursework by the end of February as long as we begin to start taking the coursework more seriously and dedicate more time to both filming our adverts and editing them. So far we have encountered quite a few problems. One problem that has been fairly persistent has been our lack of being able to get our actors all togetehr at the same time and be wearing the same clothes. This is quite an important issue as it disrupts the continuity of our advert if they all look different and/or some of them are not there. We are still working to try and overcome this problem, however i believe if we create something along the lines of an actors timetable then we will easily be able to see when we can get everyone together. Another problem we have had is that our lighting has been poor on previous shooting sessions. We have overcome this by introducing some lamps for lighting which we believe has greatly imporved our situation. One more problem has been the availability of our shooting location. Advert 1 is being filmied in 1 of our school music rooms and is therefore used quite a lot throughout the day, so the availability of our location combined with the availability of our actors has been quite a large issue. We have found that it is normally available on Tuesdays for most of the day and also our actors are mostly available then so this problem is almost solved.

Overall i think we are making progress but not as fast as we need to. If we are able to really dig in to this coursework soon and dedicate the proper time and effort needed we should almost definitely be able to finish all 3 adverts by the end of February.

Developments

We have decided upon using no non-diegetic audio for adverts 1 and 3 as we feel the scenes do not need it to compliment them. However, we haven't fully decided what to do about advert 2.

Shooting Schedule School Edition

Shooting Schedule for advert 2

Shooting Schedule

Advert 2

Shoot 1

Date and time:

During the end of November and beginning of December as the deadline for rough versions of advert 2 and 3 are due in for the 10th of December.

Location: A house situated in Iver Heath (Atia's house) We will be using the fron door area to shoot this scene.

Props:

Camera
Tripod
Casual Clothing (vest and shirt in particular)
Bottle of water
Doorbell

Cast:

Actor for Father
Actor for Godfather
Actor for Reggie (placeholder name)
Cameraman
Directors

Shots: We will aim to get all of the shots completed.

This advert is slightly more complex than advert 1 and we will most likely take more time to film. We believe that there will be many re-shoots for this advert as it is a closer scene than the last that requires much better direction and flow. This is due to the fact that the dialogue will feel disjointed if it is not short appropriately and well

Shooting Schedule for advert 1

Shooting Schedule

Advert 1

Shoot 1

Date and time:

During November. No specific times but we will try to make sure that on the days of filming we use the entire day. We will try to use Fridays as it is the most appropriate time to film as we have a lot of free time.

Props:

Camera
Tripod
Smart clothing (shirts, possibly ties), scruffy clothing for Jimmy.
Tape Recorder
Table
Chairs
Glass of water

Cast:

Actor for Bruce
Actor for Simon
Actor for Jimmy
Cameraman
Directors

Shots: We will aim to get all of the shots completed.

As this advert isn't too complex location and prop wise we hope to be able to get most of the primary filming done in a single day of shooting, however we anticipate that it is likely we will have to re-shoot some sections.

Update on where i am so far...

So far we are currently working on adding the finishing touches to our storyboards which are currently being uploaded on to my blog as we speak. I am going to beign deivisng a shooting schedule and a call sheet within the next few days which will posted upon my blog after completion. I am not fully sure whether the shooting scedule will be stuck to and whether everything will go as planned. After completing the call sheet and shooting schedule we hope to get filming as soon as possible as the editing will be the most time consuming and most difficult section of the coursework. As our adverts are going to be loosely based around different scenes from 3 different popular films i will be posting the clips up on my blog.

The names of the three films are:

- The Dark Knight, directed by Christopher Nolan, 2008

- Bad Boys 2, directed by Michael Bay, 2003

- Scarface, directed by Brian De Palma, 1983

As our coursework progress i will continue my on going research and occasionally post up bits of information i have found useful in assissting with my coursework.

Below are our initial storyboards. Not all of them have been scanned and uploaded yet however they will be shortly.

Initial Treatment

Below was our intial treatment that was roughly 2/3 correct! Our first 2 initial ideas are confirmed and we are now just finalising our third. The thrid advert that did not is called The Revival. It did not succeed in the end due to it not relating or really fitting in with the general theme of our other two adverts and thus felt out of place.

Treatment – Advertising Coursework

Atia Anzalchi
Jake Mason

Campaign Title: Save The World
Product: The World / Environment
Advert 1 – The Interrogation
Advert 2 – The Causes and Consequences
Advert 3 – The Revival

Our campaign is about saving and reviving the world. The campaign is based on the current climate change issues that face our world. Our adverts aim to make people more aware of climate change and the inevitable consequences if we carry on carelessly depleting the world’s resources and polluting the atmosphere.

Who is it aimed at – TA, how did you identify them
Line of Appeal – how are you reaching them – summarized -

Advert 1

The first advert depicts the rough interrogation of a man named Jimmy by two police investigators named Bruce and Simon. The premise of the advert is discovering who killed the world. We are using the good cop bad cop theme for this advert to give it a sense of humor while trying to convey a serious message. This will be suitable for all ages but will be mostly aimed at the age group that can make the largest difference in halting climate change, the 18 – 50 age group. We decided that this was the appropriate age group because they are the age group that are influencing climate change the most, however we want our adverts to be available Another reason why we have decided to use a police interrogation for the advertisement is to convey some subtle messages to the audience. The bad cop is an embodiment of the human race and it’s destructive nature while the man being interrogated is the helpless Earth being damaged by the human race. The end of our advert closes with a shot of the Earth with the Revive the World text. We will be using this shot at the end of each of our advert.

Advert 2

Our second advert shows a typical family and how much energy they use and waste. The camera will travel through the family’s house and will zoom in on all the different facilities and products that typical families use and waste. The aim of this advert is to emphasize the amount of energy and waste that people produce. The advert is aimed at the 18 – 50 year old audience, which is the same as the first advert. This is because this age group holds the greatest influence on energy consumption and is able to do more to reduce wasting energy in the future. We hope to capture the corny and comical feel that we hope our first advert has since it will make it easier for the audience to acknowledge and take on board the messages we are trying to convey within our advert.

Advert 3

Our third advert is based upon a scene from the action movie Bad Boys 2 in which a teenage boy arrives to take one of the protagonist’s daughters out on a date. The father will proceed to intimidate and threaten the boy however it will be about climate change and making sure the boy does environmentally friendly activities. Although the advert will have a lighthearted feel we still hope to convey a serious and important message about climate change. During this advert the father will suggest environmentally friendly methods of certain daily activities such as transport, waste management and energy conservation.

Initial Research Into Idea

Climate Change existing adverts

Brad and Earth - MTV Switch

I believe that Brad and Earth adverts are very effective as well as being entertaining. By being entertaining it works to draw in the audience and take note of what is being said as the advert is easily digestible and memorable.

UK Climate Change Ad

Here is a slightly more serious advert. In many ways it is quite simple as t just uses various environmentall strong clips. It presents some of the consequences of climate change and what kind of things influence these changes. It also visually represents pollution coming from vehicles and power stations etc. This gives the audience a good idea of what pollution would look like if it was entirely visible and where said pollution originates from.

Our Initial Ideas

We had a range of different ideas that we looked at to advertise.

We looked at products such as:

- Perfume
- Cars
- Food
- Drinks
- Climte change/Environmental issues
- Electrical goods

We finally decided upon Climate change / Environmental Issues and so we will be advertising an idea rather than a physical product.
